I've always wanted to write a romance but was bored with the M/F genre. Then I read a lot of M/M stories once I found them, and some of them were so badly written that I swore that I could do better. I happened to fall into a situation where Neil Plakcy suggested I send him a story, so I did! I haven't stopped since.

I submitted a short story to Dreamspinner Press for their Two Tickets to Paradise anthology, which wanted a couple to be on vacation. I loved Aruba and decided to set it there. I'd had the idea of being left at the alter percolating in my brain for a while, and it all came together. DSP suggested I lengthen the story, so I did.

I have three stories going: a paranormal one with a vampire and lover against a gang of werewolves, based on Red Riding Hood; one with an ex-soldier who meets a little girl and falls in love with her father (and her!); and a Christmas one where an out-of-work nurse helps a friend's friend recover from surgery and they fall in love. I have a mystery that I'm working on too but it's very early in the process.

Write, write, write! Even if you don't ever submit it, practice makes perfect. Have someone read it and critique it honestly. I went to an adult education advanced fiction class for a year and learned so much! It gave me confidence to keep going and knowledge on how to improve my writing.

I think it's the excitement when the story is accepted; that someone sees the value of the heart and soul I put into a story and wants to publish it for others to read. That never gets old! Can you tell I'm pretty much a newbie at this? LOL

I either work on another story if I'm inspired, or walk away from it and do something totally different. I'm a crafty person and I can lose myself for hours either quilting or making cards. If I'm really stuck, I'll talk to a friend or three about the plot to get some other ideas.
