Hi! What's your favorite place to wind down and read a good book?
Betsy St. Amant A bubble bath ideally! But more often, my favorite chair in the living room with my favorite Vera Bradley blanket and my mini-Schnauzer plopped in my lap.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Betsy St. Amant For me, writing is purging. I always feel better after I write - mentally and emotionally. It's what I was meant to do.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Betsy St. Amant Dive in! Write! Join a writer's group for accountability. Connect with other authors. Attend courses and conferences (online AND in person!) Read, read, read like crazy in your genre, to know what's current and trending. Read books on craft. Find a critique partner to trade crits with as you write. All of these things help so much in the long term, and will keep you motivated along the way.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Betsy St. Amant I think changing your environment is key for triumphing over writer's block. If you typically write inside your house, pack it up and go to a coffee shop or even your backyard. Change up your writing snack. Change up your hot beverage. Write in a notebook for a while via your own hand (gasp!) Mix it up, and a lot of times, that's when the words will flow. Also, endorphins are key! Take a walk, get moving, and get the blood pumping. It helps, I promise.
