She was based on myself and some of my experiences. Basically, I followed the saying "Write what you know" except in this case it's write "who" you know, in a way.

Why are you writing the book? How will your writing benefit readers? Example: will it let teens with a mental health condition understand that they are not alone? Will it educate readers on a little-known topic? Whether it goes that deep or it just provides a break from reality, think of why this story needs to be told.

I watch movies, play video games, or, if I'm desperate, magazines at the checkout aisle at stores. If that doesn't work, I force myself to take a break from thinking about writing (very hard to do) and practice self-care.
