Andrew Robertson The best way to deal with writer’s block is to keep writing. This sounds counterintuitive, but it does work.
You may get writer’s block with what else happens in a particular scene of your book; this happens to me all the time. To resolve this, I leave a blank line or two in the story’s text with a note to add more content in that section, along with any ideas that I have for what the additional content should include. Then I write the next event where I don’t have writer’s block, which will either be the conclusion of the current scene or the beginning of the next scene in the story.
Later, I will revisit the troublesome scene and decide what to do with it. Sometimes I realize that the scene is fine without any additional content, and I reword the scene to conclude it as it is. In other instances, I know what needs to be written and can fill in the missing spaces. If I still only have an idea of what the scene is missing, I will add my thoughts to the notes section and will continue working on another scene.
Andrew Robertson First, never delete anything that you have written, whether it be notes, random thoughts, or a draft. Some of it may be good; a lot of it may be bad. What you have written may capture a different element of what you as the author are trying to say. Save what you have written and incorporate it later. If nothing else, you can use it for another scene or even another book.
Second, keep writing. Some days, the words may not come easily. Press through it. You will be glad that you did.
