I write every year during NaNoWriMo, so there's some built-in inspiration in trying to hit the 50,000 word goal. Beyond that, I make a music playlist and a collage for each book. Both of those help me get in the right frame of mind.

There's a book of stories about Detroit from the 1800s that contained a story about the Nain Rouge. I liked the idea of writing about a local legend and used that as a springboard.
