Lex, so glad you reached out! I really enjoyed reading your bio on Goodreads! Loved the observations you made about the fortune teller and your life, seeing all the tings that have come to pass, and I'm sure fortune and fame awaits! But like you, I keep hoping it comes in time to enjoy it! And thanks for posting your review on Amazon.de! I just started running FB ads in Germany, and sold two books right away, but then that was it. I was looking at your books and by the "writing style" in your bio, I imagine you are an amazing writer. I'm going to check them out. Anyway, great to connect with you! Best, Lonnie

Honestly, I'm not sure writer's block is a real thing. What I mean is, I think a writer can lose confidence in what she or he is doing, or even manage to convince themselves they are not really writers (who hasn't been there), so it's not a true block to creativity, as much as a giving up. Easy to do. Picking an extremely well-written book can often stir the creative juices, and rekindle the original flames that brought you to writing in the first place; a profound love and awe for the power of words!
There are times when I went to the coffee shop without a clear direction on how I wanted to move my story forward, and might even stare at the screen for several minutes, enjoying my coffee. Then finally I would tell myself to write one sentence, no matter how insipid. And if that's all I did that day, well, I had a nice drive and a satisfying coffee. Usually though, just the act of writing one sentence without judgement, would lock me into a couple of hours of incredible writing.
But I have to say, for me writing has never been a chore. Like with my painting and sculpture, I love it and look forward to it, and am so thankful and fortunate to be driven by such creative pursuits!

Follow, trust, appreciate and love your inspiration, and don't harshly judge your work! That will be handled by others.

Working alone, writing day and night if so moved, but mostly, the awe of having a front row seat as a brand new story reveals itself. Writing for me is about discovery. Michelangelo saw working on his sculpture, not as carving out figures, but more as freeing the subject hidden in the marble.

Currently I am so busy promoting The Baldwin Hotel, as well as preparing for the re-release of my award winning novella, Turnback Creek with the rights for my novella having reverted back to me. I have bundled my novella with six additional short stories of mine, something I have wanted to do for a long time.
I am also finishing up edits and finals touches on a brand new novel that's taken me a couple years to write. It's a bit of a departure from my normal approach, a "global" horror thriller, the "global" part being different for me. My work usually follows one or two characters in a more localized story. This one was very challenging. For a long time I wouldn't allow myself to even start writing, unsure if I wanted to tackle such a sprawling tale. So glad I did! I love it, and so fun to stretch my mental muscles. I plan to launch it in April and have finally settled on a cover (after numerous previous designs. I do love designing my own covers!).
And as I mentioned in a previous post, I am thrilled to have started a new novel based on a "goodreads" challenge to write a two-sentence horror story. I just started writing a couple days ago and already have three pages!

By clearing the clutter from mind and opening to the unconscious.
As a painter and sculptor, I found that following unconscious impulses, and trusting the process, often leads me to amazing and unexpected results.
The same holds true for my writing. I just answered a challenge to write a two-sentence horror story, and thanked the person for posting the task, as the question sparked a cool new idea for a novel! (Sorry, I didn't post the two-sentence story as I felt I needed to keep the idea within until I've written the book!) Keeping stories within as I write is a huge part of my process, and I never share anything about it ahead of time.

I don't look that far ahead, but I can share my summer of 2022, the summer of Dick. Philip K. Dick. (I plan to post a longer story on my blog about my summer of Dick)
Anyway, 13 novels in 12 weeks (or maybe a bit longer!) What an experience, immersing myself into the world of one author, someone I had never read before. And so glad I did! Check out my blog soon for the full story on My Summer of Dick!

Sorry for the delayed response, but I only recently claimed this page as mine. I had no idea it was even here, as my publisher must have created it but never bothered to mention.
With that said, I started thinking on this the other day while I was on my morning walk. A two-sentence horror story. Of course I could write a two-sentence horror story, my brain already chewing on the challenge. Within a few minutes I had my "truncated" horrific tale, and planned to post it here, until I realized that the idea that had come to me was the seed for a new novel!
When I got back home, I started writing a short synopsis so I'd remember the gist of my idea, and by the next morning had already started writing the book. I love when a story, or sometimes just the main character, grabs me by the shirt and drags me into the narrative.
To sum up, I am not going to share my two-sentence horror story, sorry, but want to thank the person who posed this task! Thank you so much!
