David Lucero Hi Kavya, thank you for your question. My inspiration comes from my love of classics in multiple genres. I love to laugh, have adventures, read and watch thrillers and suspense. After reading a particular genre, I intentionally choose another genre to open my awareness to different stories that end up surprising and exhilarating me. I also want to show people my diverse style in order to reach multiple groups. Thank you!
David Lucero I'd go to Africa and be a safari guide. Not a hunter, but a guide during the golden age of African safaris.
David Lucero I like books because they take me places I may never see or know they exist. I enjoy historical stories because it’s interesting to see how people lived and thought and helps us to understand how we became who we are today.
David Lucero My love life. Why is that people choose to argue, rehash old arguments, or choose to be unhappy. It’s a mystery to me.
David Lucero Hi Peter, sorry for the late response, but my alerts and settings have been out of wack.

Big Jim is doing well, thank you! It’s opened readers to my versatility as a writer. I even have a sequel planned. I’m currently working on publishing a WW2 novel. How about you?

Keep on writing
David Lucero Hi Don, thanks for the question and thanks for you and your brother's service! I served in 82nd from '84-'87 and found it difficult to write during this time. After I got out I picked up writing where I left off and I believe during that 3 year period where I wrote little did change. My experiences in the Army helped me realize I should focus more on researching what I wrote about in order to make my stories more realistic. For instance, in my first novel 'The Sandman' I write a scene about Israeli paratroopers making a clandestine parachute drop in the Saudi Arabian desert. Because of my own experiences in the airborne (I made 48 jumps in those 3 years) I believe that scene helped my book appear believable along with my being seen as a credible author. Most of my action scenes in my books are now realistic and I'm currently working on a WWII novel. My having served makes me feel I have credibility in writing about such a subject, so yes, I believe my service has helped influence my writing. Thanks again for your question and service!
David Lucero I was 14 years old when I saw the movie and was amazed how someone could write a book on their wartime experiences and thought it must be cool to write. So my mom borrowed a 1930 vintage typewriter for me to practice. When she saw I was serious and committed to writing she bought me an up to date typewriter, but now I use a laptop.
David Lucero I'd like to read 'Death on the Dark Continent' by Peter Hathaway Capstick for my research on the sequel to 'Big Jim,' and also 'The Raid' by Benjamin Schwimmer (about the Son Tay raid to rescue 70 American POWs in Vietnam. 'Drop Zone Sicily' is also on my list, about the American Airborne Drop during WWII. It's for my research on a WWII book I'm writing about.
David Lucero I find reading books and watching movies/TV on the subjects I want to write help generate ideas. Having an outline is tough, and essential when writing a book. Otherwise, I'm just putting words on paper. But soon enough the ideas begin to flow, the outlines make sense, and the book begins to flow.
David Lucero I read and write. The ideas begin to flow soon enough.
David Lucero I feel like I'm creating something that will remain long after I'm gone. I've always admired artists. I feel my art is that of writing. It gives me pleasure to know my books will be around for people read even when I'm no longer here.
David Lucero Read a lot, and write a lot. A favorite author of mine said that, and it's true. The more you write, the better you become. Also, this is a slow-moving profession. Don't allow yourself to be overcome with dreams of a best-seller. That type of success is possible, and yes, I want to be a best-selling author too. Realistically, however, it's best to be successful locally first, because the people most likely to buy your books are people you know (family, friends, coworkers). I also suggest building a relationship with local independent bookstore owners. They're very receptive to allowing your books on their shelves on consignment.
David Lucero I'm currently working on a WWII novel and the sequel to 'Big Jim.'
David Lucero I simply sit down and begin writing. Reading also gets me inspired to write because I want to see my books available for readers.
David Lucero I was inspired to write 'Big Jim' after watching the film classics 'Mogambo,' 'King Solomon's Mines,' and 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro.'
