Woody was a cannibal, so it doesn't surprise me he cannibalized his own song (which was cannibalized to start - and later). But no, wasn't aware of this particular rewriting. Thanks.
Daniel Wolff
Thanks, Peter. I would love to come back, but not much travel going on now. It's not only a story I care a lot about , but a place. When I do get there, we'll have a cup of something. Daniel

I don't believe so. But there are some players unidentified, and he may be among them.
Daniel Wolff
Absolutely. And I'm sorry for the family's loss. Thanks.

The algorithm of Goodreads wants me to write a "longer answer" to this question because "more detail" is "more interesting..." This strikes me as an interesting set of rules for a site about reading; would seem to work against Samuel Beckett, for example. But he's probably not on Goodreads.
My original answer to your question was "Yep."

I've spent time in Michigan since probably 1970, but only occasionally. And yes, Guthrie led me to Calumet. Thanks for asking.
Daniel Wolff
Guthrie better read than supposed: Marx, Darwin, etc. Dylan (as always) hard to tell, but early lyrics connection to Baudelaire etc. highly suspect: literary influences more likely old folk songs.

Glad you're enjoying "Anger."
Not sure if "Lincoln" will answer your questions about dyslexia, but it will address how we learn outside of school and some different ways of learning -- not all based on reading. Lemme know what you think. Thanks. DW

Daniel Wolff
Sure will. Goodread wants my answer longer to be "more interesting" but that's the gist of it. I'll find out what happened. Thanks.

Still never got the book after a year. Guess they weren't really giving it away after all.

Don't die. I'm checking and will get back to you. Congrats, by the way, and hope you enjoy.

I don't get writer's block. One of the benefits of low standards?
Daniel Wolff
"Grown-up Anger"'s first chapter describes its origin: a thirteen-year-old hears "Like A Rolling Stone" on the radio and recognizes the truth. Fifty years later, he's still trying to figure out what that might mean and how it came to be. It was less an "idea" than a reaction. The ideas (if there are any) followed.

I walk into a room with a keyboard and the previous day's version. Inspiration happens, but not often enough -- in the big Hollywood version -- to sustain. Or, I get inspired to write by writing.
Daniel Wolff
See answer for "writer's block." Many things. None of which I'd discuss. If I could talk about them in a cogent way, I wouldn't need to write them because they'd already be cooked. "Grown-up Anger" refused to be summarized up until and maybe even after completion.
Daniel Wolff
Aspire. And keep at it. Beyond that, I have little. If you need advice -- if you might stop writing without encouragement -- it may not be the field for you.
Daniel Wolff
Work. And keep a variety of projects on the skillet. When one "blocks," switch to the other. And while you can take the projects seriously, that doesn't mean their author is all that important.
