Nadia Jamal The idea for the book was sparked by a conversation with a young Iraqi-Australian Muslim woman about gender segregated events. Gender segregated living rooms in a Sydney suburban home features as a chapter in the book.

Nadia Jamal There's more than one thing, but my list definitely includes learning new things about how people live.
Nadia Jamal Nothing serious, but my notebooks (hard version and online) are never too far away and from time to time, I find myself jotting down ideas. Ideas which don't relate to Muslim themes, so that's interesting for me.
After my first book, I said I didn't want to write another book and now with Headstrong Daughters, there is a second book.
And actually ... the other day, a male friend suggested I should write something about Muslim men, but I don't think I'm qualified!
Nadia Jamal I don't know if I'd call it 'writer's block' but there were periods when I didn't want to write in a full-on way. Instead, I would take some time to scribble down words, ideas or things to look into, and I found that at some point I would come back to them and tackle the writing in a more serious way.
