In addition to fiction writing, I co-author travel books with my writing partner and best friend, who happens to be my husband. We've had some success with our Beyond Downton Abbey travel guides, and our ebook, Portugal - A Tale of Small Cities is selling well. Let's Take the Kids to London is going into its fifth edition next year. We absolutely love planning trips, traveling together and doing all the exhausting research that makes a travel book interesting and clever. Then we come home to the big challenge: writing and editing the book!

Presently - following the success of Magic Numbers in Amazon's 2014Breakthrough Novel Awards (ABNA) - I am working on the submission package for this book so that I can shop it to agents. Additionally, Book 2 of the Magic Numbers series is underway.
I'm also finishing a memoir set in the late 1970s during the US gas crisis.

Whether I'm writing fiction, nonfiction, short or long works, if I get stuck, I switch over to research for a bit. I'll spend time researching and reading about some piece of my project that I need to know more about (a specific event, a time period, a location, culture, etc.) so I can expand on what I'm writing. Usually, the research leads me to something interesting I didn't know before and I get excited about how to incorporate my new knowledge into what I'm writing. Bam - bye-bye writer's block.

Some of the most unusual individuals in my life have been actuaries. Not many people know much about actuaries, or they are only familiar with the nerdy stereotype. I thought having an actuary as the protagonist in my second novel, Magic Numbers, would be fun to write. And so Merlin McHenry was "born." Much to everyone's surprise, Merlin is not only studious, but sexy.
