The first iteration of my book idea was vastly different from where my book ended up. My goal was to write the best story and not be locked into any particular storylines or ideas. In the process, I discarded many interesting ideas, but I think it was for the best.

I've never enjoyed writing but I love reading. One day, I decided that I wanted to start writing my ideas down. One thing led to another and I had a crude idea for a book. That idea took on a life of its own and 200,000 words later, I had my first novel.

I just wrote. Even if what I was writing had absolutely nothing to do with what I was stuck on. If that didn't work, I'd shut off the world, go for a walk, and clear my mind.
