I try my best to do my creative writing during the times of the day when my thoughts are at their most fluid. For me, that is early in the morning after a good sleep. As soon as I sense my wheels beginning to slow down or spin in circles, I make myself take a break and do something less brainy and more physical so that I can return to my work fully refreshed. Basically, I try get away from writer's block before it has a chance to get in my way, and most of the time this works out pretty well. I try to pay attention to how I am feeling, and how I am functioning and if creative writing is not in the cards for me on a particular day, I don't force it.
