E.J. Ruek Letting your imagination rule; allowing your creativity flight.
E.J. Ruek I do something else and let things sizzle and moulder in the (brain)pan. Doing strenuous outdoor work--fixing fence, cleaning a pen, climbing wa-aaay up to wash the upper story windows. It always seems to jog loose whatever is caught in the gears. Of course, this is especially fun when it's pouring buckets of rain outside! And, of course, I often will start a new novel if things are really stuck in one or another.
E.J. Ruek I'm presently working on two new novels, one a follow-up to "Old Hickory Lane" titled "Come-Back Road" where Dr. Warren Jeffreys, D.V.M., returns to Lewis and Clark Veterinary Service as a full partner with all the troubles sparked by that decision. (He's still not very people savvy, poor guy.) The other is what I call my "weird" novel, the first of a series of seven, that explores the "curiouser and curiouser." And, of course, I have Book 2 of "To Inherit a Murderer" in the works, but it's taken a back seat to "Come-Back Road."
E.J. Ruek "Old Hickory Lane" is a novel based on real life--mine--and my interactions with people, places, and, of course, the animals involved. It took a long time to finish because the last case in the book involves a trailer accident that was extremely difficult to relive. My audio producer, Kirk Winkler, said that that scene was absolutely the most difficult for him to record because of its emotional impact. It was that scene that stopped me dead for two years, before I finally had to either delete the manuscript or finish it. I finished it...in tears.
