With difficulty.... Some days you realise it's a hopeless cause and you just waste time around the edges not achieving anything - but instead of getting annoyed with myself I try and find inspiration by going to see a film or reading a chunk of an author I really admire or an article by someone I respect. And I look at art - photographs - drawings - paintings - sometimes working out how an artist created a work of art helps me to puzzle my way out of my own block. And when all else fails I just read back through what I've done, find a piece of it I like and try and re-engage myself.

From discovering the strange tale of the young woman from Cardiff who married Marlon Brando... I wanted to know how she made it from post-war Cardiff all the way to Hollywood and how she met Brando just after he'd won an Oscar for On the Waterfront - one of my favourite films... The story turned out to be stranger and more complex than I could ever have imagined so I decided to write a book about it.
