While my life is pretty much mystery free, my family history has enough mystery to keep me writing for years. When I was in college, I wrote a short story inspired by my great-grandmother's suicide. Now that I've experienced more of life, I'd like to revisit that mystery with a more realistic take on it. Bertha was 24 when she shot herself the day before my grandmother's sixth birthday. The accepted theory was that she was suffering from post-partem depression -- she had a 2-week-old baby, as well as two sons younger than Grandma. Of course, Grandma wanted to believe it was an accident.

Besides being an author, I'm a reporter who writes on daily deadlines. As a reporter, I don't have the luxury of "writer's block." I've carried that discipline over into my fiction writing.

I am doing a series of children's books based on Jahohora, the main character in Mama Namibia. Jahohora and First Day, the first in that series, was recently launched in Namibia, and I'm working with the artist on the second one.

A guest from Namibia told me about the genocide several years ago. I knew I had to write about it.
