I force myself to write at least 500 to 800 words a day when I'm writing no matter how I feel. Some days, it's painful to get it out. On other days, it flows like it's already been written I'm just trying to get it out fast enough. If you are really blocked, take a break and come back to it.

I remember when I approached my screenwriting friend about recording my stories and having him write my book. He said, "You don't need me to do that just start writing out your stories". So I did. So my advice is just start writing, just do it.

I'm working on two different projects. One is a self-help book called, The Lost Art of Speaking Truth, and the other is Steve and the Dragon, a children's book based on a story I made up and told my five kids every night before bed to make them laugh!

I had been telling some of my crazy stories for years, and every time I would get up to host an event or speak, people would yell out... story, story. My daughter Taylor really was pressing me to get it written down. She wrote me a note when I sat down to actually start writing in March 2020, and after I read it, I never stopped until it was finished on Christmas Eve 2020, all 120,000 words, which was cutdown to a little over 80,000 by the time it was published in 2023. Here is her note:
Hi dad!
I love you and am so proud of you for writing your book. You are gonna change the world! - Tay

Over 25 years ago, I had been sharing the crazy story of my life for some time. I think cinematically, so as I was on a flight coming back to California from a business trip to Taiwan, I had an idea for a start to the book and the title. I would flashback to my chaotic childhood every time I had a massive hit in tackling drills during the summer hell week of football. It would not be until March of 2020 that I started writing the book. That story made it into the book, but I used a crazy USMC boot camp story for my opener to provide a flashback to my childhood.
