Bob Hostetler Why the lovely Robin dated me. And married me. It is SUCH a mystery.
Bob Hostetler Benedick and Beatrice in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, because of their repartee and because Beatrice not only gives as good as she gets but also repeatedly gets the better of Benedick.
Bob Hostetler THE RED LETTER PRAYER LIFE, released earlier this year, is a book I have LONG wanted to write, though not necessarily with that title or concept. After writing THE RED LETTER LIFE, I pitched the idea of a similar book about prayer, drawing key insights about prayer from the words of Jesus. There was actually a chapter in THE RED LETTER LIFE about prayer, and it was one of my favorites in the book, so I was anxious to expand and explore that theme further.
Bob Hostetler I don't. I write, whether I'm "inspired" or not. As a professional writer, I can't wait for inspiration.
Bob Hostetler It's a secret! :) Actually, I generally avoid talking about my work-in-progress, because I discovered early on that TALKING about it SPENDS some of it, and makes it harder to return to it with enthusiasm and energy.
Bob Hostetler Get to a writer's conference. Attend at least one a year, not only to learn the craft but to begin networking and--eventually--selling your work.
Bob Hostetler Getting a note, email, comment from someone who's read a book or article and say it really helped them or meant something to them.
Bob Hostetler My answer probably won't be very helpful. But I'm a professional writer, so I write whether I'm "blocked" or not. I almost never think about "writer's block," per se; for me, there are times when I'm not getting inspired or an idea (for a hook, say, or a fitting conclusion, etc.) isn't coming to me. In such cases, though, I just keep writing. I will write (for example) a hook, even if I'm not happy with it, and keep going, hoping something better will come later. And often it does. The main point, though, is that I don't give "writer's block" any power to stop me or slow me down. I just keep writing, even if I'm not "feeling" inspired.
