Susan E. Wadds Write what presses on your heart. Tell the truth. Don't flinch. Be specific.
Susan E. Wadds I'm working on a novel about a woman for whom authenticity and truth are most important, but who grapples with her own ability to discern whether her husband is telling the truth about a crime he's been accused of. As a dancer and choreographer, she relies on her body's ability to reveal the truth, but in this most crucial time, she struggles with its conflicting messages.
Susan E. Wadds Sometimes, an image will spark a question for me. For instance, for What the Living Do, a woman road worker sparked the question, what would her life be like working in a tough job classically assigned to men? Incidents and events in my own life that were transformative often find their fictionalized way into my stories.
Susan E. Wadds Many years ago, I made a decision that seemed illogical and possibly damaging. I couldn't rationally explain it but I also couldn't do otherwise. The outcome was a tremendous gift. I wanted to illustrate that sort of wonder through a story about a woman making a similar life-threatening decision to see where that would take her.
