Writing has the power to change the world. Your words can influence the way people think, feel, and act. You may never know the full extent of the impact of your writing, but you can take satisfaction in the knowledge that you have made a difference.

Don't overthink it...just start writing. Many writers wait until they have the entire book figured out before they put pen to paper but this tends to be what ultimately keeps them from accomplishing their dream of becoming an author. No one knows your story but you, so you have to get it out of your head and onto paper first. Then you can get help from an editor to make your writing sound better. Also, keep it simple. Good writing is clear and concise. Avoid using complex words and jargon that can confuse your audience, and instead, use simple language that is easy to understand. Keep your writing straightforward and to the point, and avoid using long sentences or excessive descriptions.

I'm currently working on an accompanying bible study for SHINE Through Your Story to help people to live out their purpose and apply what they're learning. I'm also building a community of like-minded people, called SHINE CIRCLES. These "difference makers" connect through in-person retreats, monthly coaching, and plenty of online support and resources to help them to shine their lights and make an impact in the world.

I am most inspired to write when I'm by the water. No matter if it's by the ocean or a nearby lake, I tend to get creative "downloads" when I'm in nature. I'm also inspired to write when I journal. Getting my thoughts on paper gives me clarity in my thinking and connects me to my purpose. I encourage you to try both if you're planning to start writing.

SHINE Through Your Story was inspired during a journaling prayer session. As I was listening and writing, I was able to get clarity on the true message of the book, which is based on Matthew 5:14-16 NIV. "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do pople light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

One of the most effective ways to deal with writer’s block is to take a break. Sometimes, forcing yourself to write when you’re not feeling it can do more harm than good. Stepping away from your project can help you clear your mind and come back to it later with fresh eyes. Taking a break doesn't have to be for an extended period, even a few minutes of rest can help you metaphorically “hit the reset button”. You can make a cup of tea, take a walk or listen to some music. Just always remember to come back and keep writing.
