I would have to say that the best thing about being a writer is making something from nothing and everything at the same time AND someone other than yourself "getting it".

I used to be a heavy "panster" - meaning I created stories from the seat of my pants. Then I became more aware of the virtues of being a "plotter" - creating via plotting things out. Now, I'm inspired to write to find that perfect blend between letting the creativity flow and letting the structure form. It's exciting to see what comes of this ever-growing writing process.

Great answer, Joey. Back in my university days, I think outlining would have been laughed at and ridiculed. But with writing the Tom Stone detective series, there's too much info to handle. An outline is a map and guideline that can be altered and I think there is a blend of following the story and revising the outline.

The idea for "The Legend of Tanisha Biggers," interestingly enough, came from a previously published short story entitled "Swiggers." After publishing that short story, I played around with a few ideas. Tanisha's story felt like a move in the right direction creatively.
