Why my mother proactively lied to me, telling me she was definitely married before I was conceived (something she didn't do the first time she was pregnant with my older sister). Turns out I was absolutely conceived before my parents married and I absolutely never cared about it. It was my Mom's deal. Her shame I suppose based on how things went from her first go round. I think this would make a great plot for a book, finding the deeper motivations and connections that spread out from this one falsehood, like a crack in the ice that slowly spreads until the entire surface is unsafe to stand on.
