So sorry for the delay in replying! I did my research online and with the help of an expert in the field. I suggest finding articles and chat groups that discuss their experiences with people who have NPD. Thanks so much for reading Emma!

Anyone reading my reviews of other authors' books may wonder why they all have 5 stars. As part of the author community on Goodreads, I only post books that I truly enjoyed to help spread the word. I do my best to describe the plot and what I loved about the book and the author's writing. I hope you find it useful!

Thanks so much! I tend to enjoy books that are able tightly written with sharp dialogue and an emotional punch. They range from Dennis Lehane to newcomer Layne Fargo, with so many in between.

Hi Carol! Thanks for your question. I have 3 sisters!!! I'm sure it influences me in many ways when I choose characters and plots, but I try not to use or rely on real relationships in my books. For Emma, I needed 2 women to disappear and then I needed them to be from the same family - so they became sisters! With The Night Before, it made the most sense to have sisters again because of the family dynamics in the backstory. My first thriller has NO sisters and is narrated by a man, and the one I am writing now has a mother and grown daughter. I hope you enjoy all of them!

Hello and thanks for your question! The new one will be out in May 2019. Sorry for the wait! I hope it will be worth it :)

Thanks so much! I read an article in 2011 about memory science and when I finally sat down to turn it into a novel, the research had exploded. It fit perfectly with the issues I wanted to bring to light about survivors of crime and the healing process. I really appreciate your question!

Thanks! I love that quote and I loved writing Dr. Fortester because it enables me to say things like that! It's awesome that you like it too. I wanted the book to feel like a conversation so hopefully that's what is was like to read. Hope you enjoy Emma!

Thanks! Sorry for the delay. I have been traveling like crazy for 2 weeks. My new book is called Emma In The Night. Let me know of you like it!

Thanks so much! I either use index cards with different colors and write the progression of each plot line scene by scene on them, then layer them in a stack. Or I work from pages with each plot line written out and I check off the events as I use them. I do a lot of re-reading and writing down what happens in each chapter so I can see the progression of the plot lines and the disclosure of facts to make sure they are in the right order and done in a way to maximize suspense. It's the biggest job when writing in his genre!

Thank you so much! I am busy at work on another novel and hoping to have it done this fall. It will be another psychological thriller focussed on the interplay of personality disorders within a family setting. I really appreciate that you reached out!

Hello! I learned a lot working as a family law attorney but when I started writing both books, I first turned to the Internet for overview articles, and then more specific papers and articles within the scientific community. From there, I found experts in each field and consulted with them directly about my specific plots and ideas. Finally, I had the manuscript read by those experts for a final vetting. I was very lucky for the generosity of these people!

The biggest mystery today is how the heck am I 50 years old???? Today is the BIG day and it just does not seem possible. I think it's so incredible that no matter how old we get, we still feel like the same people we were at about 20 years old. Anyway ... there is a big family secret which I am not at liberty to disclose. But it involves relatives from a few generations back. When I was younger, I used to think the past generations lived straight forward, rule-bound lives with no twists and turns, but in many ways the expectations and social mores produced even more mysteries than today!

Hello and thanks for your message!
I was trying to make the story feel more intimate for the reader, as though he or she were sitting across from Dr. Forrester hearing the story one-on-one. I have never needed this technique before but I thought it served a useful purpose for this novel.
Best,
Wendy

Hello! I can't believe I missed seeing your question :( Sorry about that. And thanks so much for your note. I have a new thriller coming out in August called Emma In The Night and it is very similar in terms of the heavy dose of psychology! This one delves into the "real" narcissistic personality disorder. I also did a lot of research for the book so I hope it holds up with professionals like yourself. Let me know! Best, Wendy

Thanks so much! I'm working away ...
