C. Courtney Joyner Claude, also my father's name.
C. Courtney Joyner There are so many ways to deal with that problem: drink. Eat a dozen pizzas. Jog, Binge watch anything and everything. Become a mercenary. Sleep, Or just sit down, and work on other stuff, until the light for your blocked project snaps on again. I've tried all of these - and many others, beside - except mercenary - but recommend writing.
C. Courtney Joyner That satisfaction of a project done.
C. Courtney Joyner I've read so many answers to this questions, and the answer from other, great writers, who're friends, and the titans always seems to be the same, and I agree: read. Read alot. When I've done panels on screenwriting, one of the things I always say to writers trying their first horror scripts is to get to know all types of movies - you can't have a steady diet of just one genre. You have to look beyond your own interests, and passions, I think. And that's so much more true for fiction. So I'll tag along in the footsteps of the greats, and re-give their advice: read, read, read.
C. Courtney Joyner I just finished another, period adventure piece - great, great fun, I hope. But it's a fantasy adventure, ala Verne and Edgar Rice Burroughs. That's a high bar, for sure - but always fun to try!
C. Courtney Joyner As a screenwriter, writing horror flicks, I wrote lots of sequels to other people's works - but never my own, and now, with SHOTGUN, it's my own - so a different experience, for sure. But, BLEEDING GROUND isn't really a sequel, as it is a continuation of the first story - a big, action tale, involving this characters. Very connected to the first book - starting minutes after the the first book ends - I didn't start out with the idea of a long, epic tale - just a big adventure story in a Euro-western/Alistair Maclean vein - I hoped! - and this is the result. There will be a third book, and that's a stand-alone. But SHOTGUN and THE BLEEDING GROUND are, ultimately, two parts of one story.
