Greg Messel She was working alone late at night in her darkened office building. A strange noise distracted her from the items on her desk and now she noticed the outline of a large dark figure in the frosted glass of her door and the doorknob was slowly turning.
Greg Messel Even though I can think of other interesting worlds it would be hard to resist living in the Harry Potter world especially if I could do magic. If I couldn't I might want to rethink that choice.
Greg Messel I have quite a backlog since I've been so intently writing my new book in the last few months. I love Michael Connell and he has a new book out "The Wrong Side of Goodbye." I have on my stack "The Couple Next Door" by Shari LePena. Also the "Black Book" by James Patterson. I'm beginning to read "Before The Fall" by Noah Hawley and am quite intrigued by the beginning.
Greg Messel I have a close friend who disappeared many years ago and we have not heard anything since. This could definitely be a plot line. There's all kinds of questions to be asked. Are they still alive? Why did they disappear? Was it a conscious choice or was there foul play? If the person is still alive, they are out there somewhere. Will they resurface some day. Will we ever know what happened.
Greg Messel Probably its' Dashiell Hammett's Nick and Nora Charles. The Thin Man movies were my mother's favorites and I grew up watching and reading those. I'm sure that influences my affection for my private eye couple Sam and Amelia Slater
Greg Messel It is part of the detective series that I'm writing. The plot for this one came to me while I was riding a cable car on a recent visit to San Francisco. The car was crowded and I thought about how easy it would be to fall off onto the street that's filled with cars. Then I thought, what if someone pushed you off in an attempt to kill you? Then I just spun the tale from that point.
Greg Messel I've found writing is a little like regular exercise. If a day or two go by without me writing, I really miss it. I think one of the things that drives me on is that I'm really exciting about the projects I'm working on.
Greg Messel I've written parts of two new books. One is called "San Francisco Nights" and is the next book in the Sam Slater Mystery series. I'm working out the plot points and the mystery as we speak. The second book is exciting to me. It's called "Dreams That Never Were." It's about youthful idealism and is about a young reporter who is wounded during the assassination of
Robert F. Kennedy. I can't wait to spend more time on it this winter.
Greg Messel Writing is truly a craft. There is no way to get to be a better writing other than just write and write and write. I learn so much with each book that I write and feel that I get better with each novel.
Greg Messel You can escape into a fictional world that you normally don't get to inhabit. When I finish a book I miss being able to be a part of the character's lives.
Greg Messel I've never had a really serious writer's block. However, there are times when I have to step back and let a few days go by before I can keep writing. If I either think about it a lot or maybe just back off and take a fresh approach to my writing, things seem to work better.
