Erin M. Evans This sort of question is difficult! I find a lot of authors inspiring--most authors in fact. Everyone does something different and many do something great. I'm not sure I could pick out whose work was inspiring specifically to Empire of Exiles.

Book 2 is underway! It is called Relics of Ruin and it's late, but nearly there.

Erin M. Evans Since the series and characters are owned by Wizards of the Coast, it's entirely up to them! (But I do think Mehen and Kallan are happy).

If you like non-human characters, please check out my new book Empire of Exiles!

Erin M. Evans You did in fact!

Book III is The Adversary https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

...a lot of things happen in The Adversary. You should definitely listen to that too. :)
Erin M. Evans For me, I think the gods work best when you remember they aren't just giant humans. They're the embodiments of their portfolios.

I think they should only speak explicitly to people in altered states (dreaming, trances, etc) and when they do, they shouldn't micromanage. What the gods ultimately ought to want is for their followers to succeed. They're like parents with children--what you want is for your kids to grow up and manage on their own. Even if what you want them to manage is spreading evil. Otherwise, why have followers? You could just stomp around and inspire what you inspire.

I definitely favor a lighter touch, but I think the presence of the gods is a hallmark of the Realms, so I wouldn't pull it all the way back to something like Eberron.
Erin M. Evans Get comfortable sucking.

You will always write things that aren't as good as you want them to be, or as good as you can make them. That's why you revise. But if you never write anything for fear of it sucking you'll never find out how good you can make it.
Erin M. Evans There are six books planned in the Brimstone Angels Saga. Aside from the occasional side character, Farideh and Havilar are enough tieflings for me.

I think a father/daughter reading thing is a great idea! I know of other such reader pairs. There are some sexy parts though, so be prepared.
Erin M. Evans Yes! I have a couple of projects I'm working on. Farideh takes precedence since I already have contracts for her books, but this series is not the only thing I've got.
Erin M. Evans I'd never say never! But I think Bob and I might be too strong-willed to cooperate on that level. I get the impression we both like the way we do things on our own. But if we could manage, I bet it would be a fun ride!
Erin M. Evans I'm currently working on the next book in the Brimstone Angels Saga, Ashes of the Tyrant.
Erin M. Evans I make myself keep writing. Even terrible garbage words are words, and if you can get them out of the way, the good ones will follow. Failing that, it's time to read, read, read and feed my brain.
Erin M. Evans I have no idea what you're talking about. *Drinks more coffee*
