Darlene Foster Thanks! Most of the locations I have visited myself which spark ideas for my stories. I try to explore places other people don't always see when they travel. The world is full of amazing places to explore.
Darlene Foster A bloodsoaked cowboy staggered out of his hotel room, disappeared down the hallway and into the locked gambling room, not bothering to open the door. The gamblers stared in shock as he appeared through the smoke, pulled out a pistol and shot each one before floating through the ceiling, terrorizing the kitchen staff with his agonizing laughter and shouting, "All bets are off!"
Darlene Foster Thanks for the question, however I do not have an agent. I write children's books which don't usually require an agent. I hope you find another author who can answer your question.
Darlene Foster I would travel back to the world of Jane Austen and go for walks along country lanes, dance with handsome gentlemen at country balls, have clever conversations with friends and sew lace onto my bonnets in the garden. How lovely that would be. (sigh)
Darlene Foster I´m currently reading The Ghosts of Bellwater by Molly Ringle and loving it! On my eclectic list is Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky, The Stepmother´s Diary by Fay Weldon, Love & Liability by Linda Cassidy Lewis, The Shop Girl of Flowergate by Ellen Ekstrom, The Good Teacher by Lorraine Carey, The Italian Sister by Christa Polkinhorn, All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews and many more. I just wish I could read faster.
Darlene Foster A great uncle died under mysterious circumstances. Even though it was considered an accident, I have always wondered.
Darlene Foster Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gables series. Although Gilbert falls in love wth Anne at first sight, it takes her a long time to realize he is the love of her life. I will never forget their first meeting, when Gilbert teased her about her red hair, calling her "carrots" and she broke her slate board over his head. It is so much fun watching their relationship grow as they mature in the novels. They share the same sense of humour and level of intelligence and prove to be the perfect couple, eventually. I just love them and they are without a doubt my favourite fictional couple. Thanks for asking this great question.
Darlene Foster You are very clever. I am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
Darlene Foster I am happy that we are friends on Goodreads too. Amanda was inspired by the twelve-year-old me who always wished she could travel the world and meet interesting people. Like me, Amanda likes to help other people and that gets her into trouble sometimes. I always wanted to be brave and adventurous so I created a character that was. Other children in my life have also contributed to developing the Amanda in the books. Thanks for asking.
Darlene Foster Thanks for asking. I have done most of my advertising through social media such as Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn and my blog. To be honest I have not tried paid advertising as I am not sure I would get a reasonable return for my investment. Engaging with readers via my blog has been quite effective. I hope that answered your question.
Darlene Foster I just finished Amanda on The Danube - The Sounds of Music. Amanda and Leah go on a river cruise with their parents. Amanda is entrusted with a valuable violin by a young musician who seems to be homeless. While visiting Germany, Austria and Hungary, various people try to take the violin from her. This book will be published in 2016.
Darlene Foster Don´t give up. Just keep writing. It won´t all be good but if you keep writing, something will come out of it. Also read, read, read.
Darlene Foster When a reader tells you how much they love your book! It makes all the hard work worth it.
Darlene Foster I often go for a walk or look through photographs. It is amazing how photographs will spark an idea.
Darlene Foster Yes, I read while I´m writing. It inspires me and keeps me going. I believe it keeps the creative juices flowing. I tend to read various genres not just the one I´m writing in. I write for children so I do like to read what kids are reading now to keep up to date. Thanks for asking!
Darlene Foster I get inspired to write when I travel. Travelling stimulates my creativity by forcing me out of my comfort zone. The new sights, sounds, smells, people and culture heighten my awareness. I can't wait to sit down and create a story out of my experiences.
Darlene Foster I grew up in Alberta and although my character Amanda likes to travel to exciting places, I decided that in this book, Amanda in Alberta - The Writing on the Stone, she should have an adventure in her home country. She invites her BFF Leah from England to visit her in Alberta and that's when the fun begins!
