Hi Serena,
Many thanks for this question. No, neither Antonio nor Olivia are based on real people, although I drew on the stories of a couple of singers to create Antonio, like the cabaret singer Hutch and a German-born tenor called Erich Liffmann who was considered an 'enemy alien' in World War II. I also drew on my own experience of working in the theatre to describe the lives of Antonio and Olivia, especially how they feel when they're performing. Hope you're enjoying the book!
