Write as much as you can. But don't focus on one opus magnum. Write many different things. Short stories and novels alike. The more you write the better you become at it. But once you decide to write something - make a plan and stick to it!

Go for a stroll. No, seriously. Do something else apart from writing for a change. It's important that your mind focuses on something else. Running may not be the best idea as your thoughts will naturally get back to the problem at hand. Maybe you can start writing a different story and come back to the previous one later? There are many personal techniques of dealing with writer's block, but the key strategy is to shift focus for a while. And rest a bit.

Currently I am preparing a tale of famous Zawisza brothers, of whom one is an epitome of a true knight - Zawisza the Black. The other brother is less recognized yet still he was a prominent person in his own right. They both lived in the times of Henry V but their story is tied to my homeland and the war with the Teutonic Knights.

I have been an active historical re-enactor for the past 15 years. My group was focused on re-enacting XV century English Free Company and occasionally we entered tournments as English knights of Henry V. In order to get to know the historical background better I have done quite a bit of reading. The thought to place my first novel in this reality came rather naturally. You can say that reading is both the finale and the beginning of the writing process.
