In general you just have to keep plugging away. If you've spent too much time on a specific problem, switch to another scene in the story or leave that story and start something else. I don't think walking away from writing will cure writer's block which, I suspect, is something that plagues every writer.

I got the idea for my upcoming book A STITCH IN CRIME during a summer visit to Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, a trip I've always wanted to take. The Keweenaw or "Copper Country" was the site of a copper mining boom a hundred years ago. Descendants of Finnish miners still live in the beautiful, remote area but the population is slowly disappearing and the Keweenaw's unique story makes it a perfect place for a cozy murder.
