Thomas W. Goodhue When I was a young pastor in Hawaii, fresh out of seminary, I learned that I was expected to tell the kids a story each week in worship. The favorite tale of my youngest parishioners on Oahu, the kids I taught at Riverside Church Weekday School in Manhattan, and kids on Long Island was one about the way Kaahumanu and Keopuolani, who were both wives of Kamehameha, overturned taboos that oppressed women and commoners. The more I learned about these two queens, the more I wanted to know the rest of their stories.
