Sometimes fate plays a hand when you least expect it. I met Ansel Adams for an afternoon, we discussed form and emotion in photography, I posed the question, "Why then are the images from space so emotionally boring, the astronauts are compelling, dynamic people." Ansel told me to find out... I did and the result was Sightseeing; A Space Panorama (Knopf, 1985) - we found 175,000 images the astronauts had taken that were never made public. Took a bit of detective work and pressure through Congress.
