Betty Bolté The one mystery I'd love the answer to is what happened between my mother and her first fiance's mother that broke off the engagement. All I know is that "if it wasn't for what his mother did" they would have been married. She ultimately married my father, so if she'd married the other man then I wouldn't exist! But seriously, what did the woman do?!
Betty Bolté Let's see... "I finally journeyed to the Australian Outback, eager to see and experience the wildness of the region. Only to find everyone staring at their phones inside in the air conditioning..." While that's rather tongue-in-cheek, I do want to go to Australia! I have wanted to go ever since reading The Thornbirds as a teen, which I re-read this year and now I really want to go!
Betty Bolté I'd go to Fraser's Ridge from the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon so I could experience life in NC in the late 18th century.
Betty Bolté I'm dabbling into other historical fiction like Hour Glass and Ecstasy, but have it in my head to re-read some of the classics by Dickens to see if I understand A Tale of Two Cities better as an adult vs. a high school student who just didn't care.
Betty Bolté I've been putting words together into stories since I was a child, Xio. I wrote short stories and poems, essays and reports (complete with traces of images with labeled parts!). It wasn't until I was married with children that I decided to pursue fiction in addition to the technical writing/editing was I doing as my day job. I wanted to tell stories versus relating facts. I think I've found the best of both worlds in my stories that have some amount of history woven through them.
Betty Bolté I love being able to work from home as well as being able to travel and continue to work. The flexibility is very freeing for me, and satisfies my homebody instincts.
Betty Bolté Write, read, study the craft, learn from those you feel are better than you as well as from the mistakes (in your opinion) that others have made. Above all, never stop striving to improve your ability to tell a great story!
Betty Bolté I'm starting the third story in the A More Perfect Union series. Titled Samantha's Secret, it's the story of a healer who must prove her worth when the new young (sexy) doctor challenges her abilities. The entire series is set at the end of the American Revolution in Charles Town, SC and surrounding environs. The first two stories, Emily's Vow and Amy's Choice, should be available by fall of 2014, with Samantha's Secret following shortly behind them.
Betty Bolté Traces is a combination of ideas for several books I had been considering writing. The core of the story was the basis for my masters in English thesis. Added to that was the what-if of how do you move past your loved one dying to save you? Layered on top was the historic aspect, with the idea of a Civil War lady haunting a plantation.
