I had an idea that I wanted to write a book for a leadership audience following the global financial crisis. I had written 'Challenging Coaching' with Ian Day and I wondered what it would be like to write a book on my own. It was only after I had started my dcotrate that the focus upon trust emerged. I had to do a lot of 'wandering around' before I found the trust word but when I did I knew it was what I had been looking for.

I'm returning to my doctorate to complete my research on trust. I'm also very focussed on sharing the messages in 'The Trusted Executive' to as wide an audience as possible through writing blogs, articles etc. and through speaking events.

It took me until the age of 45 to have the confidence to share my writing, despite everything else that I had done in my career up until that point. I started writing articles and blogging and then I self-published a book and then got a contract with a mainstream publisher. So the moral of the story is that you can afford to be patient and to take it one step a time.
