I haven't had to deal with writer's block. I just get on with it. I set aside time to just write (I mean I'll set aside one month just to write) and know I've only got that time so I make sure I make the most of that time by constantly writing.

The sense of RELIEF you get when you've got all those words out of your head! It's better than therapy!

Be strict with yourself. Set yourself a certain number of words to write every day, and don't do anything else until you've done it. You'll be surprised how quickly the words mount up, and before you know it ... you've got a book.

I'm waiting for the proofread version of my forthcoming book, "One Month in Tohoku: An Englishwoman's Memoir on Life after the Japanese Tsunami." I'm not being very good at waiting! So I'm spending the time doing some pre-promotion, as well as updating my old books and thinking about bringing out new editions of those.
I've got three other books I've started writing, but haven't the time to focus on. Two more memoirs (one about surviving multiple strokes, and one about surviving narcissistic abuse) and a novel. I'll get round to them.

Ideas, words, sentences, images just form themselves in my mind. I don't really feel like I've got much control over it. The difficulty isn't in finding inspiration; the difficulty is in finding the time and clearing space in life in order to let the inspiration have it's way with me ; )

From the time I'd spent with the survivors of Japan's 2011 tsunami. Every time I have visited them during the past almost ten years, I have been deeply moved by their experiences, lives, humour, warmth, and resilience. I want their lives to be shared and not forgotten. I have been blogging about them for years, but the urge to share their story in a book became overwhelming!
