Write what you're most passionate about, what interests you the most. If you're in this for the long haul, as a writer, a true writer must be, expect to go through struggles. The thing that will get you through those struggles is the love affair you have with your writing. If you're not in love with your writing, or attached to it in some way, you'll end up breaking up with it and saying goodbye.

I was an independent filmmaker for a while in my teens and early to mid twenties and one of the things which I appreciated the most about transitioning to being a writer was the Control aspect. The experience was all up to me, the production, good or bad, was up to me, I did not have to rely on others, convince others, push others, to see the final outcome of the dream.

Tap into your subconscious, open up the avenues of expression within yourself and outside yourself. Allow yourself to write something down to paper or computer, the writing process has to start somewhere. If it sits in your head too long, it stays in your head. Don't be too critical of yourself, you can always correct it later, make it better later, edit it later. If nothing seems to be coming out, start writing about your experiences, write about the experiences that are most meaningful to you.
