Lisa Gitlin I started several books before finally plunging into this one. I finally realized that this was the book that had to be written. The energy for it was there, and it didn't go away, so I was able to keep writing it.
Lisa Gitlin You don't "get" inspired. You either are or you're not. If you're a writer the inspiration comes and it goes naturally. You hope that it "comes" more often than it "goes." Working hard every day will help the process along -- and having confidence in yourself. If you don't have confidence and determination the inspiration will probably fade.
Lisa Gitlin I'm about to start work on Book 2 of my Joanna trilogy.
Lisa Gitlin My advice is, people who write books HAVE to write. It's like eating or, more accurately, going to the bathroom (in other words expelling what's inside of you). You have no choice in the matter. If you have to make a decision as to whether or not to write, you probably won't do it. Writers have to write whether they like it or not.
Lisa Gitlin For me writing fiction is like making magic. It's my greatest joy. When it's going well there's no feeling like it. It's a kind of ecstasy.
Lisa Gitlin I never think of it as writer's block. It's part of the natural process of writing. The energy ebbs and it flows. You have to be patient. Which I'm usually not -- ha ha.
