Gary B. Haley None, sadly. Every spare moment is spent writing, not reading. But I would like to find time to read James Michener's novels "Hawaii" and "Mexico."
Gary B. Haley America elects FOUR moron presidents in a row, but that's not devastating enough. So America elects another.
Gary B. Haley What happened to Shannon? A friend from high school disappeared one day. Her home was abandoned and her family was gone. Her new Camero and her brother's new Firebird were parked in the garage. Then we learned that her father was a serious con man who had skipped yet another town. I did some speculating in my novel, The Attuned, but an entire book could be written on this mystery. The girl was just gone, and is still missing.
Gary B. Haley I spent 15 years in the defense industry and travelled all over the Middle East and Central America during the late '80s and early '90s. The Attunement and The Attuned are based on many of crazy things we experienced while throwing our best effort at terrorism and drug trafficking.
Gary B. Haley I don't have to "get" inspired to write. I have written since I was very young. The inspiration to write came from reading Edgar Rice Burroughs novels when I was very young, and later reading Robert A. Heinlein novels, and then actually meeting Heinlein in 1984. (I sat across from him during dinner at an L5 Society conference. GOOD guy. He treated us like old friends.)
Gary B. Haley I have forty or so novels started. I am working on three or four of those the majority of my time though. Mostly historical narrative, but a couple are science fiction and another is IT related. (I'm a software engineer with thirty years experience.)
Gary B. Haley Write someplace where there are few interruptions. You need to be able to submerge yourself into your story.
Gary B. Haley I do a lot of research to make sure what I write is authentic and accurate. When I was writing The Attunement, I took three trips to New York to take pictures and make sure I had the right feel in the novel. I love the research.
Gary B. Haley Writer's block is rare for me. I have forty-something novels started, in varying stages of completion, so I usually just start working on something else. However, sometimes I feign writer's block just so I can head into the mountains with my laptop. :) Some of my favorite places to hide and write is a short ways off of Maxwell Falls Lower Trail near Evergreen, CO. A long weekend in Telluride or the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park helps, too.
