Circling back to an earlier answer, by writing regularly and religiously at a set time each day you're blocking out blocks of time while blocking out writer's block. Get yourself to that darn desk at an exact time and magic will happen that'll rock your socks ...

Through religiously humping the muse creating worlds from the nether reaches of Dionysian and Apollonian gray matter that are consummately my own ... and planting the flag in that much cratered moon that is my mindscape turned inside out for you, Dear Reader.

Carve out precious blocks of time and defend them with all your might. By writing regularly and religiously you'll find that your subconscious gives you precious gifts in those sublime blocks of time. I'm not one for page limits since on some days things flow effortlessly and others not so. The flow depends on where I am at in the book, and I have written several books using this method. Read widely and regularly and constantly look up new words and read those writers who will teach you new ones. Mark up your thesaurus rex by circling le mot just and in your dictionary always always always look at the etymology of the given word. Did you know that porcelain derives from the genitalia of sows? - female pigs. That ameliorate derives from mel, French for honey? I hope this "honey ups" a love of language which one must nurture throughout life, and yes, if you're a serious writer you're one for life ... speaking as a lifer!

I'm in the final editing stages of a novel about a driven postmodern American hellbent on breaking through the rigid cultural barriers of the ancient culture where I reside. It's a novel that has as its driver revenge and is set on the battlefields of an august and exclusive old tennis club in Yamate-cho in Yokohama and the university where the protagonist is employed on a "McContract." Things come to a boil making for a sizzling read. It's told in the first person and the beginning allows for an immediate emotional entryway into the rich historical setting that was the foreign settlement in Yokohama back in the Meiji Resoration. So there's a bit of history but the lion's share is set in the pomo present. It's entitled: Tennis Clubbed, Snubbed and Rubbity-Dub Dubbed in the Land of the Rising Sun.

By reading and writing notes on scraps of paper that I leave on my desk. I then write these notes into the file that becomes a work in progress and one thing leads to another and I find myself actually writing the book. Also, I read tons and that inspires me bigly.

Regarding my crime thriller Massage World the idea that sparked the novel came when I told the masseuse who was giving me a massage at the time that I was a writer. She said: "Why don't you write a book about massage? The massage industry?" I immediately thought it was a fantastic idea and got right to work on it. After a few years and several revisions and headaches and hangovers that went into it I released it recently.
