Hi Kay,
I turn 1 day into 2, so to speak.
I work in the morning at home, then take a long break of 2 to 3 hours, in which I do many different things. I start again in the afternoon. The long break allows me to approach the second session refreshed, as if it's morning again. This time I work outside, at one of the 8 or 10 coffee shops in the area.

2. Write what you love (whether it's something you know or not).
3. Write around problems. Leave a blank and move on.

Strong coffee and taking a stroll down one of Tokyo's winding backstreets - that's enough to start me up.

The opening scenes of PACIFIC BURN (Jim Brodie #3) came to me while I was waiting for a place at JFK.
CONCERNED READERS gave me an idea for the subplot of the nuclear power plant meltdown (not a spoiler) by asking for answers about the disastrous quake-tsunami-meltdown. I was in Japan at the time.
