My current series of books, The Glass Apple series, all follow mythology (I'm a huge fan of mythology, cross-referencing the stories, finding matching themes across the seas and so on). The first two books followed celtic mythology. The next two, Amerindian mythology. The current one, my work in progress, and the one after, will follow greek mythology. The story started simply because I found so many stories had the theme of an old man, travelling around, teaching and helping, that crossed continents and history ... and the thought 'what if' came to me. "What if ... they were all the same man?"

There is no one thing that inspires me. I may hear a snippet of conversation, or a piece of music, or see a landscape of indescribable beauty, and suddenly the muses are tugging at my earlobes ... "write. Write, boy, write!"

I'm working on book 5 of the Glass Apple series, Child of Mount Pelion. As the title suggests, ancient Greece will feature strongly in this story arc (to be completed in book 6, The Weaving and the Crone, before a new story arc begins in book 7, The Teacher's Fable)

Never give up. Write what interests you - you'll be better at it! A real writer is someone who doesn't give up

When the writing is flowing, you forget you're a writer. You're simply another reader, caught up in the story, as eager to know what's going to happen next as any reader

Music and reading, preferably combined. I have very eclectic tastes in both - I can listen to Tina Turner while reading Fingerprints of the Gods, or Vivaldi's the Four Seasons while reading The Dresden Files. Anything that gets the mind working!
