K.S. Brooks That question is actually funny right now as I am working on a novel based on a traffic incident that occurred just this month. I'm pretty certain (or at least my imagination is) that I encountered a serial killer on the side of the road during my travels. The entire incident was eerie and bizarre: the makings for a great mystery novel!
K.S. Brooks Yikes - is it crazy to say I really like them all? Each genre gives me a different sense of satisfaction - and it's all good.
K.S. Brooks Hi P.d.r., thank you for the question. I don't have any plans to venture into that with my fiction at this time. I'm doing something similar with my children's books (photos instead of drawings). I have a coffee-table series of photography books planned which may or may not end up in eBook form as well. Some of the photographers I've spoken to found doing an eBook version was not worth the time on that type of work.
K.S. Brooks Hi Ey, thanks for the question. I find they're both a lot of work to write, although, the children's books take less time because they're shorter. Since the children's books are theoretically non-fiction educational books, each fact has to be triply checked and then I submit them to a panel of educators for feedback. It's a grueling process, but young minds are very important. :)
K.S. Brooks Hi Anma, that's a great question. After being published traditionally for almost 10 years, it seemed to me I could do what the publisher was doing, and have a lot more control over my stuff. That was in 2011. Today, I can't see doing it any other way. If you'd like to read about my backwards and somewhat accidental way into self publishing, I've written about that here: http://www.indiesunlimited.com/2011/1...
K.S. Brooks Hi Melinda, thanks for your question. I really don't do a lot of marketing for my children's books. Occasionally I'll offer free downloads, but mostly, Mr. Pish has some wonderful fans who are very dedicated and spread the word.
K.S. Brooks Hi Cheri, thanks so much for your kind words. My photos have been used on a number of book covers as well as on websites and in book trailer videos. You can see some of the book covers here: http://ksbrooks.com/propho/photograph... Plus, one of my photos is used each week as part of the Indies Unlimited Flash Fiction Challenge. You should stop by and give it a shot - they're lots of fun. :)
K.S. Brooks Honestly, there is no easy answer to that question, other than everything. You can read my explanation in this article entitled, Inspiration, Phooey!: http://www.indiesunlimited.com/2012/0...
K.S. Brooks I'm working on the sequel to Night Undone, the sequel to Lust for Danger, the apps for two Mr. Pish books, a series of photography books, a vampire novel, a mystery set in Monte Carlo, and a celebrity tell-all. For starters.
K.S. Brooks Don't go into publishing blind. Look online for information & get educated. This is a great resource page I recommend to all new authors (and some not-so-new): http://www.indiesunlimited.com/ive-wr...

K.S. Brooks I find in most instances, writer's block is more about fear than it is about writing. Since I figured that out, I tend to have the opposite problem, where I just can't turn off the urge to write. My recommendation to writers experiencing a block is to ask themselves what they're afraid of. In my case, it was failure.
