Crin Claxton The idea for The Supernatural Detective came because I wanted to explore ideas about the afterlife. I wanted a central character who is flawed and human, with a sense of humor. Humor is important to the series. The second book Death's Doorway is due out in 2015. I'm exploring relationships (between Tony and Maya, and the friendship between Jade and the couple), looking at what drives people, and why they behave the way they do. I'd like the reader to feel they know my central characters. Engaging with characters increases the tension when the characters are in danger. And the supernatural detectives are often in danger!
Crin Claxton I'm inspired by all kinds of things: subjects in the news, stories I come across, reading tombstones in cemeteries. Yes really! Human tragedies and triumphs engage me, especially stories of injustice.
Crin Claxton I have finished the third Supernatural Detective mystery novel: The Haunting of Oak Springs. More adventures for Tony and Jade. I'm currently working on a gender queer sci-fi/fantasy novel.
Crin Claxton Don't think: write. Learn your craft. Read read read. Read everything and anything. Be inspired by other authors. Get feedback on your writing and try to see the good in even the heaviest criticism. Don't give up. If you have something to say, there will be people out there hungry for your words.
