Pop algebra quiz. It's not a dream.

London exists, and that's kind of as good as a fictional world. Truly, the world is so magical in and of itself that I don't think I'd want to leave.

I just read Jeff VanderMeer's BORNE, and that was heartbreaking and as perfect as a book as I can imagine. I decided to take things down a little notch and go with THE NAME OF THE WIND for some good, old-fashioned fantasy for a bit. I'm also finishing up SILVER ON THE ROAD by Laura Anne Gilman and that's highly recommended.

WOTHWOOD came to me in a dream, or at least some of it did. I wanted to write a heroic fantasy full of emotion and tough choices, taking up the storyline after some action and turning tropes on their heads.

I'd say that world travel and reading are the most inspiring, but that's just not true. Really, I get most of my ideas driving! Or in the shower. Go figure.

I'm writing the sequel to FROST & FILIGREE called MASKS & MALICE, featuring my two heroes Vivienne du Lac and Nerissa Waldemar, La belle dame sans merci and a lamia respectively. It takes place in Egypt in the 1930s and is going to be a love letter to the original MUMMY franchise, as well as my early love of archaeology. It's droll and full of adventure. No end of fun to write!

Keep going. Keep writing. You have to keep at it to get better, and you can always get better. Be honest with yourself, get good beta readers, and don't look at your weaknesses as drawbacks, but rather as opportunities to grow.

Always getting to play pretend. I never want to grow up.

I don't know that I suffer from writer's block, really, not regularly. I have times when I'm too tired to write, sure. Or when I'm anxious or personal life is getting in the way. But I'm always thinking about writing or plotting out some new aspect. I think I might suffer occasionally from analysis paralysis in figuring out which project to tackle next! Keeping a list of ideas, and Pinterest boards up to date, that's generally my secret.
