The idea for Born of the Grave came from a sleepy viewing of the pilot episode of The X-Files pilot in September 1993. Mulder and Scully exhumed a grave, only to find an orangutan. This led me to ponder, "What if a body transformed into a new life form after burial?" After 7 years of pondering the question and doing research on insect physiology, I was ready to write the book about how an alien life form could emerge from dead human remains.
