Cynthia Farr-Weinfeld Thanks to a fascinating class I took in college many years ago, I kept a dream journal for almost ten years afterward. It's unbelievable the subject of so many of my dreams, and I've often wished that I could go back and watch them on a DVD player and see what they really looked like. Thinking about that gave me the idea.
Cynthia Farr-Weinfeld That's a tough one. I always try to write anyway, even if I end up throwing much or all of it away, to keep myself in the habit of writing. I also look at books and websites of writing prompts to help jump start myself.
Cynthia Farr-Weinfeld I can envision other worlds where the impossible is possible and make it a reality in fiction. I get to daydream on "paper"!
Cynthia Farr-Weinfeld Read. A lot. Read the type of fiction (or non-fiction) that you are interested in reading and writing. Practice writing every day and have fun with it.
Cynthia Farr-Weinfeld I'm working on a novel about a Djinn, or genie. In this book, Djinn are not benevolent wish-granters, but they can make you believe you are living in an idealized reality you have wished for as they drain you of blood. It's a YA novel set in Portland, Maine, where I live. The teens who will face the Djinn must find a way to stop it before one (or more) of them winds up dead.
Cynthia Farr-Weinfeld All of my stories start with a thread of an idea that occurs to me: "Hmmm, I wonder what it would be like if I could see people's actual dreams with modern technology somehow?" When I think about it some more, sometimes I'm rewarded with a plot, as in the case of Dreamland Tree.
