Jennifer Cole Judd READ. First, read what you love, and read what you want to write. I think any writer serious about the craft needs to be immersing herself in good books. Then, WRITE. It's easy to postpone writing and let other things get in the way. Even if you can only write 10 minutes, take that time. Join professional organizations. Meet other writers. Find a critique group (a must!).
Jennifer Cole Judd Writer's block...urgggh. This is one of the most frustrating aspects of writing! For me, I've found doing something creative (but not necessarily writing-related) helps. Cooking, art, digging in the dirt, playing with my dog or chickens, funny conversations with my kids, going for a walk, searching for little treasures (or fairies!). All of those things help get the creative juices flowing.
Jennifer Cole Judd Currently I am polishing two rhyming manuscripts, several poems, and a non-rhyming picture book.
Jennifer Cole Judd Being bopped on the head by your muse. Working in your pjs. Being immersed in words. Connecting with other writers. Having a valid excuse for being totally zoned out or homed in on a flower, a person, a cookie. :)
