I think the best thing about being a writer is having the ability to string together letters, words, and sentences to construct a fictional world that can take readers on a journey without them ever leaving their seat.

The most important advice I would give any aspiring writer is to master the art of being persistent in their pursuit to improve upon their writing skills. This simply means to practice the art of writing like it’s a full-time job. As with any craft, the more you participate in the act of writing, the more your skill level will develop and improve.
In addition to mastering the art of persistence, I believe having patience will also play a critical role in becoming a polished writer. Not everyone will be on the same timetable, but depending on your writing aspirations, it can take months, or even years to develop the necessary skills needed to be successful in your craft.
Although the journey may be long, it makes it all the more worthwhile when you can see your progress and ultimately transform yourself from an aspiring writer to a published author if that is your goal.

I simply tap into my passion for taking readers on a journey, using my words to intrigue those that choose to engage with my writing. I find it incredibly exciting to be able to tell a story and have readers come along for what I hope is an entertaining ride. The one book, in particular, I’m interested in reading over the summer is, Drowning, by T.J. Newman. I’m curious to see how this will compare to her book, Falling, which was a monumental success by any author’s standards, but especially when you take into account that was her debut novel.
I’m interested in seeing how this book will handle character development and whether relying on coincidences will play a major role in helping the characters resolve issues they may come across. I thought those were two shortcomings in her first novel that prevented the story from living up to the grand expectations set forth by the sky-high promotion of the book.
