I'm so glad you enjoyed the Readaholics books, Carly. I regret to say, however, that my publisher does not plan to publish any more books in the series. :-(

Hi, Sheila. Usually I have a murder in mind, and then I start to build suspects and possible motives. I don't usually have the whole thing planned out ahead of time. I write by the seat of my pants, although I might plot a few scenes or chapters ahead if I get stuck.

Oh, I wish I could, Jody, but the publisher is not interested in buying any more Readaholics books. :-( Thanks for your interest.

John, I'm not sure your questions are appropriate for this forum, but if you want to get in touch with me through my website, I'll take a stab at answering them.

Thanks for your kind words about the Readaholics, Ashley. I enjoy writing about them. I have not yet published a book where the title came first, but I have a title in my head now that I might develop a book around. I'll let you know if it comes to fruition! :-)

Thanks for thinking my titles are clever, Ashley. Even though the publisher technically gets to decide on the title, I've only had one title changed by the publisher in fifteen books. For this series, I try to think of something that will relate to the book the Readaholics are reading. For The Readaholics and the Falcon Fiasco, they were reading The Maltese Falcon, so that was pretty straightforward. A little alliterations always helps, so I went with "Fiasco." For The Readaholics and the Poirot Puzzle, they were reading Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, and I played around with combinations of words starting with "P" until I matched up her sleuth, Poirot, with Puzzle. Sometimes titles come to me right away, even before the book is written, and sometimes I have to work on them. Thanks for asking!

Hi, Krista! I hope to some day publish more Mall Cop books, but at the moment my publisher isn't interested in more. Maybe if I get hugely famous, they'll bet me to continue the adventures of EJ and Grandpa Atherton. I had great plans for them! I'm also considering the possibility--scary!--of self-pubbing another novel in that series and seeing how it does.

I am into the second book in the series and I love it. I also bought the third one. I would definitely be interested in more of these!!

I am currently working on the Readaholics' third adventure, tentatively titled THE READAHOLICS and the GOTHIC ENIGMA. Amy-Faye organizes the Celebration of Gothic Novels for Heaven's only bookstore (cleverly named The Bookstore), and when fans and squabbling authors gather, a murder happens.
I'm also proofreading the typeset copy of THE RECKONING STONES (Sep, Midnight Ink), and itching to get back to drafting the third book in my as yet unsold YA trilogy.
When I'm not writing, I'm working on trying to get my daughter to pick a college so she can leave the next in August!

I like both the writing lifestyle (having flexibility with my schedule) and the opportunity to be creative. I also like the fact that one can work on the writing craft for a lifetime, continuously improving, and never reach "mandatory retirement" age. Being a writer has also made me more sensitive to people since I'm constantly observing and really listening--that's been a surprise side benefit!

I really don't believe in writer's block for a professional writer, any more than I believe in accountant's block or teacher's block or plumber's block. You get up every morning and do your job, even when you're not in the mood. That said, I usually have at least three projects in some stage of development, so if the words aren't flowing on the draft of the third Readaholics book, I might switch to proofreading the typeset copy of The Reckoning Stones (coming in Sep), or outlining the final book in my not-yet-sold YA trilogy. Mixing it up keeps me fresh and creative (most of the time!).
