I'm lucky, I tend not to suffer. But there is material all around us. Just go and sit in a Costa or a Starbuck and look at the people around you. Steal them; invent histories for them... "She picked up her latte and looked out of the window." A simple enough sentence, but wher could you take that..!

Write, write, write. And always expect the first words you put on paper to not be the best. Don't be afraid to edit and edit again. Words are tools, not sacred in themselves. It's the joining them together that's the alchemy.

Three things: a new novel, a new collection of short stories (both likely to be seen in 2022), and a significant volume of poetry - on which I've been working for a couple of years. This one's probably for 2023.

I used to live on Parliament Hill in London, and so I started with the scene - then invented the primary characters / plot after that.
