Ian Gouge I'm not sure I have a mystery as such - but there are lots of episodes that might pass muster as the subject for something fictional.
Ian Gouge I'm lucky, I tend not to suffer. But there is material all around us. Just go and sit in a Costa or a Starbuck and look at the people around you. Steal them; invent histories for them... "She picked up her latte and looked out of the window." A simple enough sentence, but wher could you take that..!
Ian Gouge It gives you the freedom to explore subjects and themes - like our relationship with our history (my personal favourite).

I also love creating people. That's just the best thing!
Ian Gouge Write, write, write. And always expect the first words you put on paper to not be the best. Don't be afraid to edit and edit again. Words are tools, not sacred in themselves. It's the joining them together that's the alchemy.
Ian Gouge Three things: a new novel, a new collection of short stories (both likely to be seen in 2022), and a significant volume of poetry - on which I've been working for a couple of years. This one's probably for 2023.
Ian Gouge Tricky one! It's more a compulsion than inspiration really. I have no choice but to put pen to paper / fingers to keyboard.
Ian Gouge I used to live on Parliament Hill in London, and so I started with the scene - then invented the primary characters / plot after that.
