I think we should all just reject the concept of writer's block. When you're ready to write, you'll write. Writer's block is just the pressure you put on yourself to write when you're not ready to write.

The ability to create something beautiful, powerful, and life-changing, that will outlast me and move readers to become kinder and more compassionate human beings.

2 things:
1. Read, view, play, live, and travel as much as you can. You'll be a better human and a better writer because of it.
2. The more deeply you live your life, the more deeply your writing will be. The more clinical, unchallenged, and sterile your life history is, the less you understand human beings, and the less credible your writing becomes. But that's just my opinion.

I'm finishing revising the third of three books of mine coming out in the next 10 months. Counterfactual Love Stories is the first, followed by Amnesia of June Bugs, coming out in March 2022 by 7.13 Books, and then next July of 2022, Dream Pop Origami, my experimental memoir about racial self-discovery and metamorphosis, AAPI masculinities, love, desire, and travel, comes out with Unsolicited Press (and indie press out of Portland, Oregon). In my spare moments of free time (whatever THAT is), I've been working on a literary trilogy about Addy, a mixed-character who makes three seminal life choices and each choice is a single novel written in a particular style.

I spend a lot of time thinking in the shower, going on long walks, playing video games, reading my friends' books, and watching tons of movies. Amazing art in all media inspire me, doesn't have to be fiction, though that always does the trick.

Counterfactual Love Stories is around 18 years in the making! The first story I wrote as an adult is in this collection (Sola's Asterisk), the first story I wrote for my MFA is here too (Blue is the Loneliest Number), as is the last story I wrote (Semi-Permeable Membrane). Once I started seeing this book as a collective work, I understood the thematic, stylistic, and aesthetic threads connecting them all together: mixed-race identity in the Midwest, AAPI love, and alternate realities.
